The place we call Home

So we have some pretty awesome news to announce....we got accepted into TVA (Temple View Apartments) at BYUH. It is campus married housing and we are beyond thrilled to be living here!
About 2 weeks ago we received an email from BYU saying that we got accepted into TVA. We were so happy and couldn't believe that this happened! The wait list for TVA is 1.5 years so we have no clue how we got accepted so fast. I have one word for this.....BLESSED. The rent is $400 cheaper a month, it is a 5 min walk to the school, and a 2 min walk to our church building. We do feel kind of bad for our friends and family who have been waiting sooooo much longer than us to get accepted lol....but I do think that since we do have a baby then they do take that into deep consideration.

Pro's:
-Bigger bedroom
-Much cooler
-Full kitchen
-Nicer furniture
-More storage
-Sound proof to our neighbours
-Bigger closet

Con's:
-We are on the upper level.....not so fun when you have a baby and groceries to carry
-Much smaller living room
-Ants
-Windows do not shut (it is like this in all the apartments)

There is another downside...since we got accepted so fast, we are still in a contract with our other place. The landlords are very understanding so we came to some kind of compromise. If we could find someone to take over our lease, then we would be able to get back our $1000 damage deposit back. So far...no luck. It totally sucks but we are still saving more money by moving to TVA so it's all good :)

Ok so here is a little video of our new place!

We love it.
It is our home <3

Here are a few pictures of our old place.
We will miss you first Hawaii home!

Bored. Clean. Food

This afternoon I found that I was very bored and there was nothing to watch on TV. I then decided I needed to do something productive. After doing the dishes, tidying the living room, and cleaning the bathroom, I decided that I would make Benjamin some baby food :)
I've been going to the grocery store to buy him some baby food in jars specifically so that I would have nice little jars to put my own baby food in! Usually I would just make enough food to last about 3 days, but I was feeling extra productive today so I made much more and froze it.

My little baby is not so little anymore! He is getting so big and so heavy! He will be 7 months tomorrow and I can't believe how fast the time has flown by.

Just a few things about him:

-He can sit up all by himself
-He can do push-ups
-He talks all day every day
-Still wakes up 1-2 times in the night (aweful....)
-He can hold his own bottle
-He chews and slobbers on everything
-No teeth yet
-When you reach your arms out to grab him he will reach back out to you (love it)
-His laugh is becoming more of a little boy laugh <3

My little helper

1 Container of Pea's and Carrots
4 Jars of Banana (+ a small bowl for after his nap)
3 Jars + 1 Small Bag of Spaghetti and Meatballs

The Big Move

Well...it happened. It's done. We made it.

And it's AWESOME!!!

I still can't believe that I live in Hawaii!
It was so surreal for so long that I thought it would never happen.
But then it just........happened!

This past week has been very busy with packing and cleaning and saying our goodbyes. We were able to go see my family up in Drayton 2 weekends ago and we said goodbye to Maikal's family on Sunday. We are very sorry for those we have missed! I miss everyone so much already. I am just so grateful for the technology we have in this day and age so that we are able to keep in close contact with our loved ones. We are truly blessed :)

So on Tuesday we packed up all our bags (5 carry-ons, 5 large suitcases, a playpen, and a baby carrier) and headed up to Calgary. All I could think of was.."oh man oh man oh man! We are actually doing this!" We were a little nervous about taking Ben on his first flight. We were afraid he would be very fussy and also be in some sort of pain from the pressure. But nothing went wrong!! We kept his soother in his mouth for all of the take off's and landings. We made a little bed for him at our feet for his naptimes and it worked so perfectly :)

We arrived at the Honolulu Airport at 9:30pm.  Hawaii is 4 hours behind us so it really felt like 1:30am. so brutal! We then headed straight to a car rental. We chose a standard size suv. It was the only vehicle that would fit all our luggage and still be somewhat cheap. We then headed to our new home! The town of Laie. It is soo beautiful! We are right across the street from the PCC (Polynesian culture center) and 3 blocks away from BYU. We are only 30 meters away from the ocean and we have our own little beach. The ocean breeze it very nice on these hot humid days.

When we looked at our own cute little home, we couldn't be more happy. It is so nice! Very spacious and it has its own bedroom! Almost ALL of the places we looked at online were studio's and extremely tiny. We feel incredibly blessed to have found such an amazing place to live.

Later this week once everything is all cleaned up from packing I will take more pictures and videos and post them :)

The days feel sooooo long here because of the time change. We were awake at 5:30am (9:30am Alberta time). We decided to check out our little beach down the driveway and see what it was like. The sun had just come over the horizon and it was very calm and soothing. Lucky you say?? Yah...I would definitely have to agree!

Well that's it for now. I will hopefully be keeping up more often with my blogging to keep everyone updated :)

ALOHA!

Getting Crafty!!

I was at the thrift store the other day and saw this adorable fabric and I thought maybe I could do something with it. I decided to try and make a skirt!
I've always wanted to be able to make my own clothes. I find it soooo much cheaper!
In total for both fabrics was $7! I doubt I would have been able to find this kind of skirt anywhere for $7!!

It was so incredibly easy (for the most part) and I will definitely be making more of my own clothes from now on! All I did was take one of my own skirts, placed it over the blue fabric, traced around it, then cut it out. I then sewed up the sides and placed the lace over it and sewed that at the top. Then I made the waistband and sewed that into the top. For the zipper I took and old white skirt that I never wore and took that zipper and put it on this skirt. Can I just say that zippers are so hard!!! It looks so awful....but it works :)

TADA!!!
I'm pretty proud of myself :)
